Capstone Exhibition
2015, Mezzotint Series
There is something about the presence of a horse that speaks to the soul of a human. In this body of work, I explore the horse through a formal study of its exterior. I draw upon the animal’s musculature, line, form, rhythm, pattern, and texture through the richness of marks made and then printed from copper plates.
The physicality of the mezzotint mark gives me the ability to achieve a print with hyperrealistic details and rich tonal values. I love the labor intensive process of creating a mezzotint. I feel that there is something so empowering about seeing the final image on paper, after spending so much time rocking and carving an image onto the plate.
