About the Coalition
The UNL Tribal Extension Office sponsors the Native American Coalition (NAC), which fosters relationships and partnerships between Nebraska Extension and Native American communities and organizations. The NAC aims to enhance collaboration by helping Nebraska Extension staff work effectively with these communities, bridging the gap between tribal and non-tribal populations, facilitating community development and leadership, and integrating Native American traditional worldviews, languages, cultures, and histories into the University of Nebraska and beyond.
The NAC supports a range of initiatives aimed at promoting food sovereignty, education, and cultural exchange. Programs such as the Indigenous Youth Food Sovereignty Program empower Indigenous high school students to grow and preserve their own food, while the Umóⁿhoⁿ Nation Hydroponics Initiative introduces innovative, soil-free growing techniques to ensure year-round access to fresh produce. The Hoop of Learning Program provides Indigenous students with the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit, facilitating their academic journey. Additionally, the UNL Indigenous Pathway Program offers vital resources to help Indigenous students navigate the admissions process at the University of Nebraska. Cultural training initiatives, including the Medicine Wheel Talking Circle and the Tribal Engagement Training Model, foster understanding and collaboration, creating a supportive environment for Indigenous voices and perspectives within educational settings.
Design Contributions
Since its inception in 2020, I have had the privilege of designing for the Native American Coalition. Throughout the years, I have created a variety of materials including: flyers, brochures, and promotional materials for events, while also building and maintaining the coalition's website. My work has been dedicated to enhancing the coalition's visibility and outreach within the community.
